Occupational therapist

It quickly became clear that I would work in healthcare, given everything that caught my interest. I want to contribute to people’s health and well-being. Ultimately, I fell in love with the field of Occupational Therapy and, from 2009 to 2013, I enjoyed completing the Occupational Therapy program at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences.

Occupational therapy focuses on improving quality of life. Complaints are always considered from both a physical and psychological perspective. This also applies to the treatment of the complaint and advice on how to manage it. Therefore, occupational therapy aligns well with providing care in the broadest sense of the word.

In addition to my role as an occupational therapist in chronic pain rehabilitation and primary hand therapy, I have also worked in mental healthcare since 2020. In 2022, I completed training as a burnout/boreout coach and occupational therapy for energy recovery. The pillars that Cardo Ergotherapie prioritizes align perfectly with my therapist’s knowledge and vision when it comes to providing care:
• Resilience and energy distribution
• Hand therapy
• Postural therapy

Effective treatment is educational and useful. But in my opinion, treatment should also be accessible and enjoyable. This creates healthy and natural motivation. If a client goes home with a smile on their face, I’m satisfied, and I’ll be there too!

After graduating in 2013, I first worked for a year in spinal cord injury rehabilitation. At the same time, I also worked in chronic pain rehabilitation. Working with spinal cord injury patients sparked my interest in hand therapy. I discovered that hand complaints are also a common problem in chronic pain rehabilitation, and that they can significantly hinder daily activities. In 2016, I furthered my knowledge by completing a hand therapy program, and since 2017, I have been officially a hand therapist.
As a therapist, I observe and analyze problems people experience during their daily lives. Then, together, we search for a workable (and sustainable) solution. This includes professional advice, as well as appropriate exercises for the individual to help improve their quality of life. And that's what has driven and motivated me as a healthcare provider for 10 years. It's incredibly rewarding to work with the clients I treat to address a complaint or problem and then work towards improvement in as many areas as possible.
