More information

Lower back pain is also commonly called lumbago. Four out of five people have experienced it at some point. The cause is often difficult to determine. We know that for most people, the muscles, ligaments, and joints in the back are involved. In most cases, and even in cases of severe pain, there is no evidence of disease or permanent damage. People with lower back pain experience pain in their lower back. The pain can also radiate to the buttock or leg. Standing or sitting for long periods, as well as movement, can be quite painful. For some people, the back pain is a one-time occurrence, while others experience it regularly.

The pelvis can also be involved. Pelvic pain is often experienced as pain in the lower back. A physiotherapy examination can clarify whether the pain originates from the pelvis or the lower back. If no clear abnormality is found, it is also called non-specific back pain. Treatment at Cardo Healthcare is always tailored to the specific wishes and needs of the individual. Other disciplines are involved if necessary, such as an occupational therapist, podiatrist, or our psychologist.

An acute complaint can arise during lifting, sports, or spontaneously while making any movement. As mentioned earlier, the lower back is often affected, but the mid or upper back can also cause problems. Furthermore, the ribs can be involved in a blockage, often causing a sharp or nagging pain when turning or inhaling. Your physiotherapist can provide appropriate advice for these acute complaints and provide pain relief through treatment with manual techniques, shockwave therapy, medical taping, or dry needling.

Back surgery can have a significant impact. Various spinal surgeries are possible, such as narrowing the nerve outlet (spinal stenosis) or fusion of the vertebrae (spondylodesis) in cases of spinal slippage (spondylolisthesis).

All these surgeries are treated postoperatively by a physiotherapist. Treatment consists of learning to manage the symptoms and limitations and strengthening the back and core muscles. The goal is to enable you to resume personal activities such as sports or work.

Neck pain can significantly limit daily activities. Here too, we distinguish between acute and more chronic complaints. We treat a wide range of complaints, such as acute neck pain, post-neck surgery, and whiplash complaints. Contact us for more information about our treatment options.
